Junior Team Helpers
“Junior Team Helpers” are those U-14 & U-15 players who wish to assist the Coach with the training of a lower age team. These players should be senior players within their team, with good cricket skills and a good knowledge of the game. (This includes field position knowledge and that of bowling and batting techniques.) They should also be out-going and willing to share their skills with the developing juniors, have patience with the younger players and be able to communicate with ease. These are the players who want to assist, and as such be used by the team Coach/Manager to assist in those areas of Fielding drills and Batting practice out in the field.
Points to Remember:
These “Helpers” are also Children and should themselves be supervised, so should not be left alone to supervise Net Bowling/Batting practice as Adult Supervision is also necessary in this situation. They should be ‘Utilised” as an Assistant and not just given a small task and “forgotten” about, as this is not what they want - “USE THEM” to keep the team interested and always completing a skill.
Don’t forget, they may have a greater knowledge of the game then you, so ask them if they are prepared to “lead” fielding drills, so the younger players can see what they can learn from the game. Most of all, they can help you and you them, so work together as a coaching team and the whole team will benefit from the experience.
If you are interested in using a Junior Team Helper, please contact our Junior Coordinator(see Committee Contacts).
